· Composite Filling (White fillings)
Composite fillings are used when a tooth has been affected by decay, cracks, or fractures. It can also be used to close spaces between two teeth or build up worn teeth. The advantage of a composite filling is that it can be closely matched to the shade of each person's teeth. Thus, making it virtually impossible to detect. Composite fillings are very durable and will last many years.
· Porcelain Crowns
Crowns are an ideal way to repair teeth that have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. A crown may also be recommended by the dentist for someone who wants to improve the appearance of the tooth or to help hold a bridge or denture firmly in place. Teeth that have had a root canal also require a crown to protect what is left of the tooth.
How is a crown prepared?
Receiving a crown requires two appointments. First, the dentist will prepare the tooth to the ideal shape for the crown, removing a layer of the outer surface, and leaving a strong inner core. Once the tooth is shaped, an impression (or mold) of the tooth is prepared to be sent to the lab. The dentist will then apply a temporary crown to the tooth while the permanent crown is being made.
The patient is required to come back in approximately 2 weeks to have the permanent crown placed. The color of the porcelain crown will be matched to the patient's preference with the help of our dental team.
· Porcelain Veneers
Veneers may be the option for you if you want to create a uniform, white, beautiful smile. They are also used to cosmetically repair crooked, misshapen, discolored, chipped, or uneven teeth. Veneers are very thin pieces of custom made, tooth shaped porcelain that are bonded onto the front teeth to create the smile of your dreams. Getting veneers is a generally painless procedure that requires two visits. The first visit prepares your teeth by lightly buffing and shaping the surface. An impression is also taken at this time to prepare your veneers, and a shade is chosen. The second visit will consist of cleansing your teeth and preparing them with a special bonding cement. The veneer is then placed and a special light beam will harden and set the bond. You will leave the office with the smile you have always dreamed of having!
· Tooth Whitening (or bleaching)
Tooth whitening is a simple dental treatment used to lighten the color of the natural tooth enamel. Tooth whitening is not permanent and may need a touch up every several years. Smoking, and drinking coffee, tea, or wine can cause teeth to yellow over time. Sometimes too much flouride during tooth development, normal wear of outer tooth layer, or stained teeth due to certain medications may cause one to consider tooth whitening.
Tooth whitening can be achieved by having the dentist make custom trays in the office. These are then taken home and used with a special whitening solution 30 minutes each day. Results are seen quickly and it is the perfect, non-invasive way to enhance the beauty of your smile.
· Porcelain Fixed Bridges
A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent option to replace missing teeth. Porcelain fixed bridges are popular because they resemble your natural teeth. This type of bridge consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth and are attached to artificial teeth to fill in the gap when one or more teeth are missing.
Some people choose to get a porcelain fixed bridge to fill the space of missing teeth, maintain facial shape, prevent teeth from drifting out of position, or to restore chewing and speaking ability.
